ADA Lab is Sardinia's first joint artificial intelligence laboratory, created through the collaboration between Ichnobyte and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Cagliari, with sAlfer Lab’s support. This partnership combines Ichnobyte team’s consolidated experience in advanced IT infrastructures, with the university's academic excellence and specialized knowledge. At its core, ADA Lab aims to build an innovative ecosystem where skills, tools and resources come together to develop advanced and innovative technologies.
VISION
The laboratory aspires to become a hub for research and experimentation, applying innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Its ambition is to grow into a reliable platform for research and technology transfer between universities and businesses.
WHY ADA?
The Laboratory is named after Ada Lovelace, English countess and mathematician who is recognized as the world’s first programmer. In 1843, she wrote some notes on Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, in which she assumed that it could go beyond simple numerical calculation, suggesting that it might even be able to compose music, write poetry, or create works of art, if properly programmed. At the same time, Ada noted that the machine itself could not generate anything original or autonomous, but could only follow human instructions, without true creativity or awareness of its own: this is considered to be one of the earliest anticipations of what we now call generative AI.
